Cold Case on the Murder of Elena Sanchez Hawkins

State Police Need Information on the case of Elena Sanchez Hawkins - Found on January 08, 1992

Description: The Kentucky State Police request help in resolving the murder of Elena Sanchez Hawkins, 700 Bardstown Road (U.S. 62) Elizabethtown, KY. Mrs. Hawkins' body was discovered at her residence on the morning of January 08, 1992. Her wrists had been bound, she had been sexually assaulted, and her throat was cut. She died as a result of a loss of blood.

Mrs. Hawkins husband had called her at 7:00am (EST) that morning in order for her to put their eldest son on the bus. Her husband called again at approximately 10:00am (EST) when their three-year-old son told him his mother was bleeding. Mr. Hawkins rushed home from work to find his wife dead. Kentucky State Police were called to the scene immediately thereafter. It is believed Mrs. Hawkins knew her assailant. An older model pickup truck, believed to be a Datsun, was seen in the driveway at approximately 7:30am (after her son had been put on the bus). The truck was described as being flat black in color, a short bed, with a standard cab, and no chrome. It had "tie-down" hooks, and the bed was fitted with a "metal" topper.
